Classic Music Shetland is based on the island of Unst, Scotland’s most northerly island. It is run by John Laughland, Britain’s most northerly composer.

Orchestral works include 'Shetland Fiddle Concerto', ‘Shetland Piano Concerto', 'Shetland Jazz Session', 'Shetland Peerie Symphony', 'Shetland Spirits', 'September Eleven' and 'Unst Bitten Twice Shy’.

Vocal works include 'Shingle Dance', a three act opera, and the songs ‘Even Such is Time’, ‘London’ and ‘The Ruined Maid’. Recently, vocal arrangements were made of some traditional Shetland songs, including ‘Baloo-Balili’, ‘Da Delting Spinning Song’, ‘Draem-Flooers’ and ‘Da Sang O Da Papa Men’.

Instrumental music includes a ‘Clarinet Quintet’, a ‘String Quartet’, ‘September Sunday in Shetland’ for violin and piano and many pieces for piano solo. It also includes incidental music for television documentaries and animations.

'Shetland' style pieces include two recent books entitled ‘Shetland Tunes From Unst', for Violin and Piano, and ‘Shetland Tunes From Yell', for Violin and Piano.

I hope the music reflects, to some extent, my appreciation of eighteen years living on the island of Unst.
